• CUPS「SHIPPŌ」

「SHIPPŌ」は「七宝」という伝統文様を分解、再構築を試みて生まれました。「七宝」は同じ大きさの円を重ねたような文様で、切子では菱（ひし）をつなぐことで輪を表現しているのですが、その菱と輪を別々に取り出して、有機的なパターンを作りました。「七宝つなぎ」は、柄が上下左右に限りなく続くことから、縁起が良いとされるように、「SHIPPŌ」もランダムのようで一つのパターンを作っていて、リピートできる柄になっています。今ある伝統的な文様から学び、自分が「心地よい」と思える、新しい文様ができました。

“SHIPPŌ” was created by analizing and restructuring the traditional “Shippo” pattern. The pattern appears to be multiple even circles over lapping with one another. In a Edo Kiriko piece, the design is depicted by connecting diamond shapes, but for “SHIPPŌ” I decided to take the diamonds and circles out separately to make an organic pattern. Just like “Shippo-tsunagi (strands of Shippo pattern)”, which is said to bring good luck because its pattern continues eternally, “SHIPPŌ” is made with a repeatable sequence of patterns even though it may seem randomly arranged. Lessons from existing traditional patterns led to the creation of a new and comfortable design.
