「江戸切子」とは江戸時代後期に江戸(現在の東京近郊)で始まったカットグラス工法のガラス工芸で、国の伝統的工芸品に認定されています。

 

江戸切子の条件

  1. ガラスである
  2. 手作業
  3. 主に回転道具を使用する
  4. 指定された区域(※江東区を中心とした関東一円)で生産されている

 

※区域の指定は、江戸切子協同組合に帰属します。

“Edo Kiriko” is the craft of decorating glass with intricate and often highly specialised cutting methods. The practice originated in the city of Edo (the former name of Tokyo) towards the end of the Edo Period (1603-1868). It was designated by the government as a Traditional Craft of Japan in 2002.

 

For glassware to be considered “Edo Kiriko” it must be:

  1.    made of glass
  2.    handmade
  3.    fashioned using (primarily) spinning tools
  4.    produced in Tokyo’s Koto ward and its environs in the Kanto area*

 

*Restrictions on the area of production were designated by the Edo Kiriko Cooperative Association.
