伝統工芸という位置づけや、長い歴史のなかで先人たちが残してくれたものに支えられてこそ、今の自分たちの作品や商品があります。それらをないがしろにしたり、安易に破壊したりしてしまうのではなく、本質を見抜いた決断をすることが大切だと考えています。今なにが求められているのか、自分たちは江戸切子を通して何を生み出していきたいのか、そういったことをひとつひとつ判断することで、本質が見えてくると思っています。

そしてその本質をもとに、江戸切子とは何かということを、何度でも再定義していこう、という堀口切子の決意が込められています。

We strive to be true to the essence of Edo Kiriko.

Redefined

Yet we are determined to redefine our values when required.

 

The recognition of Edo Kiriko as “Traditional Crafts of Japan”, and our predecessors’ achievements in the long history is a crucial foundation to our work. We believe it is important to appreciate what we have inherited, and to recognize the true essences of Edo Kiriko. By continually reevaluating what is on demand, and what we wish to deliver to the world, we are able to capture the heart of our work. 

We are determined to repeatedly redefine the true essence of Edo Kiriko, and make modifications when necessary.
